Olivia Munn opens up on her traumatic experience on set

Olivia Munn recently spoke about a “traumatic” experience she faced on a movie set.

Recently on Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast, Munn, 44, shared that she experienced distressing events while filming an unnamed movie. She filed complaints with the studio. “I had to file complaints with the studio, and there’s a lot of other little things that go along with it, but it got to this place where I was offered a lot of money,” Munn stated.

She explained that the studio offered her a “seven-figure” settlement with a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). She rejected it, saying, “I know this is a lot of money to you, but it is not a lot of money to me to raise my voice.”

Munn said these events took place during the height of the Me Too movement, which gained momentum in 2017 after allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. “This was like the reckoning, the Harvey Weinstein reckoning that began it all,” she said. “This was that time period, and this was when people were targeting anyone who signed an NDA, saying, ‘Oh, you only did it for the money.'” She feared the NDA would “reverse any kind of validity to my voice.”

She also worried the studio would “leak” the NDA to “diminish” her credibility. Though she met with lawyers, she quickly decided not to accept the settlement. “That comes into the feistiness of not thinking things through and being so upset and frustrated that this would be the offer to me.”

A lawyer told Munn the offer was a significant amount, but she found the statement “disrespectful.” She walked out of the meeting feeling “so proud” of her choice. At the time, she worked on several projects, including The Predator (2018).
