Actor Kevin Spacey told his L.A. Confidential co-star Guy Pearce to “grow up” in a video shared on his account on X (formerly Twitter). This comes after Pearce claimed earlier this week that Spacey “targeted” him during the production of the 1997 neo-noir crime movie.
What did Kevin Spacey say about Guy Pearce’s allegations?
Spacey took to X on Tuesday to discuss Pearce’s allegations against him. He shared a 1:42 minute-long video with the caption, “Grow up, Guy Pearce. You are not a victim,” and spoke at length about what he claimed happened between him and Pearce. Spacey began by directly addressing Pearce and said that he had read the comments that the actor made about him. He added that while he preferred “not to play this out in the media” and speculated that Pearce had his own reasons “for wanting to do exactly that.”
The House of Cards actor continued, “We worked together a long time ago. If I did something then that upset you, you could have reached out to me. We could have had that conversation, but instead, you’ve decided to speak to the press, who are now, of course, coming after me, because they would like to know what my response is to the things that you said. You really want to know what my response is? Grow up.”
Spacey claimed that Pearce came “just to spend time” with him in Georgia during the production of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), which happened about a year after the production of L.A. Confidential. In the video, Spacey asked whether Pearce had told the press about that too. He elaborated, “I apologize that I didn’t get the message that you don’t like spending time with me. Maybe there was another reason, I don’t know, but that doesn’t make any sense. That you would have just been leading me on, right? But here you are now on a mission, some 28 years later, after I’ve been through hell and back.”
Notably, Spacey was cleared of the charges of sexual misconduct in the U.S. in 2022 and of sexual assault in the U.K. in 2023.
Toward the end of the above-mentioned video, Spacey asked Pearce what took him so long to speak on this subject, and said he would be open to having “a conversation anytime, anyplace.” Spacey suggested that they could do it live on X as well. “I’ve got nothing to hide. But Guy – you need to grow up. You are not a victim,” he concluded, echoing the caption.
