Here are more details about the crash and whether Ryan Preece suffered an injury.
What happened to Ryan Preece?
Ryan Preece was involved in a dramatic crash during the 2025 Daytona 500, flipping his car after a multi-car wreck with just a few laps remaining. The incident started when Christopher Bell was spun out while racing for the lead. Bell’s car slammed into the outside wall, bouncing back into traffic where it collided with Preece’s car, launching it into the air. Preece’s car flipped several times before landing back on its wheels.
This marks Preece’s second major crash at Daytona, as he was involved in a similar incident in 2023. After the 2025 wreck, Preece voiced his concerns about the current state of NASCAR’s Cup cars and pointed out the danger of their design. He said, “I don’t know if it’s the diffuser or what that makes these cars like a sheet of plywood when you walk out on a windy day. But when the car took off like that, and it got real quiet, all I thought about was my daughter.” Reflecting on the incident, Preece shared that his thoughts immediately went to his daughter when the car went airborne. Preece also added, “I’m lucky to walk away. But we’re getting really close to somebody not being able to.” (via CBS Sports)
Despite the frightening crash, Ryan Preece walked away unharmed and without any injury. He was treated at the Daytona infield care center. He finished the race in 32nd place, one of 13 cars that failed to complete the race.
