The Cave Divers meme essentially makes fun of cave divers and explorers, who take on the dangerous activity of exploring extremely narrow and usually dark places, in addition to measuring and analyzing them.
This meme first gained traction last week thanks to TikToker @bigmoneyjaytee. He had uploaded a sped-up video showing himself opening his fridge, bending down, and then leaving his shoes in a manner akin to how an explorer or cave diver’s legs are shown to outside viewers while they are checking out incredibly tight spaces inside. “They feenin to get stuck,” he captioned this video.
The user had also shared multiple other videos preceding this, poking fun at cave divers in various ways. One of these videos is even a diss track aimed at cave divers.
Soon enough, other users also began taking to TikTok to share their unique versions of the meme. For instance, @asherglean shared a hilarious meme of cave divers trying to explore their own phone, after realizing it had a hole, specifically the one used to connect the phone to a charger.
Sadly, the ‘Cave Diver’ meme on TikTok traces its roots back to an infamous and horrific incident from 2009 called the Nutty Putty Cave Incident. In it, a man named John Edward Jones passed away after being trapped in a cave system called Nutty Putty in Utah. He had gone to this cave system as part of a trip with 10 other friends and family members.
