Shakira’s highly anticipated concert in Peru faced an unexpected setback as the singer was hospitalized. The Grammy-winning artist, who recently began her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, shared the news with her fans on social media. Following medical advice, she had to cancel one of her scheduled performances. Now, many fans are concerned about Shakira’s health.
What happened to Shakira?
Shakira was recently hospitalized due to “an abdominal issue,” leading to the cancellation of her February 16 concert in Peru. The singer, currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, announced the news through an Instagram Story (via PEOPLE).
She revealed that she had to visit the emergency room the previous night and, on medical advice, was not in condition to perform. The singer wrote, “I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized.” The pop star further added, “I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.”
Her scheduled concert at Peru’s National Stadium was the first of two back-to-back shows in Lima. While she had to cancel the first performance, she expressed hope of recovering in time for the second show on February 17.
Addressing fans who were expecting to see her perform, she assured them that her team and promoters were working on rescheduling the missed concert. The singer did not share further details about her condition but thanked her fans for their support.
Shakira’s hospitalization comes shortly after her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour in Rio de Janeiro began on February 11. The tour follows a successful year for the singer, as she recently won Best Latin Pop Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. The album, titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, marked her first full-length release in seven years.
