William Byron Wins 2025 Daytona 500 Race for Second Straight Year

Perennial winner William Byron reigned supreme in the 2025 Daytona 500 race for the second time in his career, completing two consecutive wins in the competition. Byron added the title to his glittering trophy cabinet after coming out on top in the ‘Great American Race’ in 2024 as well. However, the race wasn’t without incidents, as deteriorating weather and on-track clashes resulted in an eventful watch for those present.

Here’s everything you need to know regarding William Byron’s historic win in the 2025 Daytona 500 race.

The 27-year-old stock car racing driver clinched the top spot after two overtime laps, making it the sixth time in the last eight years that the Daytona 500 was decided after regulation time.

William Byron’s win came after an intense scuffle between Denny Hamlin, Cole Custer, and Chase Briscoe ended up opening the way for the eventual champion. With one lap to go and Hamlin leading the race, Briscoe inadvertently bumped the three-time Daytona 500 winner’s car, causing Hamlin to spin out and crash with Austin Cindric. Byron instantly took advantage of the situation and reached the checkered flag after navigating his way through the wreck.

The 500-mile-long marathon, conducted at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, also saw the advent of two yellow flags. The first caution occurred with 14 laps left in the race following a crash that involved Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, and others. Meanwhile, officials raised the second yellow flag with just five laps to go after Ryan Preece’s No. 60 car came flying through a wreck. Additionally, the race also incurred two delays due to the pouring rain.

US President Donald Trump was also in attendance to witness William Byron’s win at the 2025 Daytona 500. While speaking to FOX Sports‘ Jamie Little about his experience at the race, Trump stated, “They have a lot of courage doing this. I see it, and I’ve been here. They have a lot of guts, as they would say.”

While Byron secured first place in the race, Tyler Reddick, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Briscoe, and John Nemechek completed the top five rankings at the event.
