Why Henry Cavill Doesn’t Voice the Witcher in Sirens of the Deep

Netflix’s The Witcher series has expanded its universe with the recently released Sirens of the Deep movie, but it doesn’t feature the fan-favorite Henry Cavill in the lead. The animated movie, which takes place in the same continuity as the live-action show, sees Geralt of Rivia embark on a mission to a seaside village to investigate a series of attacks. However, he soon discovers a prolonged scuffle between humans and the sea people, which could result in an all-out war. The film opened to a lukewarm reaction on the streaming platform, with many voicing their concerns as to why Cavill was absent from the project.

Why Henry Cavill doesn’t return as Geralt in The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

Cavill did not lend his voice to Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep due to his infamous exit from the setup.

Ahead of the release of The Witcher Season 3, it was confirmed in October 2022 that the former Superman star will not be reprising his role as Geralt in the series’ fourth chapter. As such, Liam Hemsworth was called in to fill in for Cavill for The Witcher’s final two seasons.

Meanwhile, Netflix officially confirmed work on the animated feature back in September 2021. However, the renowned streaming service only shared The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep’s official title in 2023, after Henry Cavill had already departed the mix. While the actual timeline of Cavill’s exit and the commencement of production on Sirens of the Deep remains unknown, it is highly likely that the British actor already had his foot out of the door before casting plans for the Kang Hei Chul-helmed flick materialized.

As such, Doug Cockle voices the iconic monster-hunter instead of Henry Cavill in The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Notably, Cockle is no stranger to the beloved franchise, having voiced Geralt in several Witcher games.
