Rex does not die until Invincible Season 3 Episode 4.

In this season, he has become a lot more friendly and mature towards most of his teammates and allies. He has most notably become friendlier with Invincible, supporting the latter’s burgeoning relationship with Atom Eve, and being one of the heroes alongside Monster Girl, who defend him after he is attacked by Cecil. He is also shown to be growing closer to Shrinking Rae, teasing a possible romance between the two.
