Guardians of the Galaxy 4: Dave Bautista on if He’ll Return as Drax

Dave Bautista recently commented on the possibility of his return as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy 4 in the future. In 2023, Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy 3 ended with the team splitting up and everyone going their separate ways. After director James Gunn also took up the role of DC co-CEO, many fans are uncertain whether a fourth part will be made or not.

Dave Bautista says he’ll return for Guardians of the Galaxy 4 on one condition

The Knock at the Cabin actor was recently present in an interview, where he discussed his future as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While Dave Bautista was conversing with ComicBook to promote his upcoming action movie, In the Lost Lands, he recalled his journey as Drax. He also disclosed whether he would return if GOTG 4 goes into production. Bautista told the outlet, “Drax is completely closed to me. Unless James Gunn called me and asked if I would do something as Drax again, I just wouldn’t be interested.”

Bautista added that his return would only be possible if James Gunn returned in the director’s seat for GOTG 4, which he said “is not gonna happen.” He referred to Gunn handling operations at DC as the co-CEO and asserted, “He’s doing okay, he’s gone a different route.”

The Army of the Dead star, however, expressed that he would be interested in taking on a different role and working with Marvel or DC in the future. He added, “I do wanna be in that world, I’m a fan of that world, I’m a fan of comic books and that whole universe. Marvel, DC, I just wanna be in it.”

Dave Bautista further disclosed that he had conversations with both Gunn and the Russo Brothers and conveyed that he would be “totally open-minded” to take on a character they would want him for.

In 2023, before the release of GOTG 3, Bautista announced his retirement from playing Drax. He said, “I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over].”
