Why Mr. Miyagi beat up a man revealed in Cobra Kai Season 6
Mr. Miyagi had beaten up and robbed a prison guard. This is because that same man had stolen his dead wife’s necklace, which was very precious to him.
In Season 6 Part 2, Daniel uncovered a box, whose contents revealed clues that Miyagi was not always the serene and compassionate man he knew and that he not only competed in the Sekai Takai but also supposedly killed someone. This not only made him investigate further but also made him question his earlier beliefs about his former sensei.
Mr. Miyagi’s encounter with the prison guard was eventually explored in the very final episode of Season 6, “Ex-Degenerate.” At a family dinner, Daniel’s mother Lucille gave Sam a pearl necklace to celebrate her graduation. This was the same necklace that belonged to Miyagi’s deceased wife.
Lucille then recounted the item’s backstory: the pearl necklace originally belonged to Miyagi’s mother. His father handed it to him when he was leaving Okinawa. Miyagi’s father believed that he should sell it to get money. However, the latter refused to sell the heirloom because of sentimentality.
Consequently, Miyagi held on to the necklace and gave it to his wife after they married. Unfortunately, following her demise at an internment camp in Manzanar during the war, a guard stole her necklace. Daniel later revealed that Miyagi simply did what was necessary and took the necklace back from the guard.
Lucille then mentioned that Mr. Miyagi had to fight the guard as the latter attacked him. Furthermore, she added that before his demise, he asked her to pass down the necklace to Sam.
