2025 NFL Awards: Joe Burrow Wins Comeback of the Year for Second Time

The Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow created NFL history after becoming the second player to secure the Comeback of the Year award on two occasions after Chad Pennington. The 28-year-old quarterback recorded his best-ever individual campaign in five years with the Bengals after spending much of the previous season on the treatment table.

Here’s everything you need to know regarding Burrow’s record-breaking win at the recent event.

Joe Burrow takes home Comeback of the Year award

Joe Burrow capped off a spectacular 2024-25 season by securing the second Comeback of the Year award of his career.

The Iowa-born athlete had to sit out the final seven games of the 2023-24 campaign due to an intense wrist injury. As such, Burrow underwent surgery, which ended up extending his time on the sidelines. However, the seasoned quarterback made a stellar return to form this term, recording a career-best 4,918 yards passing and 43 touchdown passes, as per AP News. Adding a cherry on top, Burrow also led the league in the two said categories.

Burrow further elevated his chances of securing an award at the 2025 NFL Honors by becoming the first player to notch three touchdowns, while throwing for a minimum of 250 yards, in seven consecutive fixtures. The Bengals talisman secured 31 first-place votes in the CPOY category, beating out the likes of Sam Darnold (8), Damar Hamlin (3), and J.K. Dobbins (3), among others.

Reacting to his second Comeback of the Year award win, Joe Burrow noted, “That one I would be proud of. It’s not exactly an award you want to be up for. But if you’re up for it, you might as well try to win it,” according to CBS Sports. Burrow’s first win occurred three years ago after he helped Cincinnati qualify for the Super Bowl following an injury-riddled rookie season.
