When Is Andrea Mitchell Leaving MSNBC News?

Andrea Mitchell’s future at MSNBC has been a topic of speculation since she first announced she would be leaving her daily role. After years as a prominent anchor, questions remain about when she will officially step away from her program and what her next move will be.

Let’s explore the latest updates, her statements, and the impact on MSNBC and NBC News.

Andrea Mitchell’s last day before leaving MSNBC News revealed

Andrea Mitchell will leave MSNBC as an anchor on Friday, February 7, 2025, after 17 years of hosting Andrea Mitchell Reports.

Mitchell first announced her departure in October 2024, stating, “After sixteen years of being in the anchor chair every day, I want time to do more of what I love the most: more connecting, listening, and reporting in the field” (via Deadline). She will continue as NBC News’ Chief Washington Correspondent and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, while also covering major breaking news across NBC platforms, including MSNBC.

Mitchell confirmed her final day during Monday’s broadcast, saying, “My goal will continue as it has always been: to bring you, our viewers, the major newsmakers shaping our country and the world right here on MSNBC.” She emphasized that her new role would let her cover events from a “different vantage point” without a daily program schedule. In October last year, she highlighted the importance of reporting as the next administration “undertakes the monumental task of handling two foreign wars and the political divisions here at home.”

Mitchell began anchoring Andrea Mitchell Reports in 2008, establishing it as MSNBC’s longest-running daytime program. The network has not yet announced a successor for her show.

Mitchell’s departure follows NBC News’ political director Chuck Todd, who left the network a week earlier. Additionally, Comcast plans to spin off MSNBC later in 2025, separating it from NBC News.
