Lily Collins, a well-known actress, recently shared a baby photo that gained public attention. While her career continues to grow, her personal life has also sparked interest. Many are eager to learn about her journey into motherhood and her family with husband Charlie McDowell.
Here’s what we know about Lily Collins’ newborn daughter, her birth, and the couple’s first moments as parents.
Lily Collins posts picture with her baby amid controversy
Lily Collins shared the first photo of herself with her newborn daughter, Tove Jane McDowell, just days after announcing her birth via surrogate.
On February 3, 2025, she posted the image on Instagram Stories. In the photo, Collins pushes a stroller on a tree-lined street. Her husband, filmmaker Charlie McDowell, originally shared the picture, capturing the moment from behind. Collins reposted it with the caption: “Utter bliss.”
The couple announced their daughter’s birth on January 31 in a joint Instagram post, expressing gratitude to their surrogate. “Welcome to the center of our world, Tove Jane McDowell,” Collins wrote, sharing a photo of the newborn in a monogrammed blanket.
She added, “Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again.” Celebrities like Amanda Seyfried, Katherine Langford, and Billie Lourd congratulated them.
The announcement also sparked debates about surrogacy, with some questioning the growing trend among celebrities. McDowell addressed the criticism in the comments, countering misconceptions. “It’s ok to not be an expert on surrogacy,” he wrote. “It’s ok to not know why someone might need a surrogate… And it’s ok to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially in regards to a beautiful baby girl who has brought a lot of love into people’s lives.”
The controversy did not overshadow the couple’s joy as new parents. McDowell ended his response on a lighter note, writing, “That’s all for now because she just pooped and I need to change her diaper” (via People). The couple began dating in 2019, married in 2021, and now share glimpses of their journey into parenthood.
