Sandra Bullock releases statement warning fans of social media scams
Sandra Bullock expressed her concerns regarding scammers on social media pretending to be her. In a statement to PEOPLE, the Gravity star said, “My family’s safety, as well as the innocent people being taken advantage of, is my deep concern.”
Bullock then mentioned that she and her family are currently working with law enforcement to handle the issue. The Speed actress then stressed that she had no social media. “Any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me are fake accounts and have been created for financial gain or to exploit people around me,” she added.
On Sunday, Bullock’s sister Gesine Bullock-Prado took to Instagram to share her findings of multiple fake Facebook accounts using her name. In the post, she reminded fans that she had only one social media account.
Bullock-Prado also urged them to report and block the fake accounts if they were friended or messaged by them. She pointed out how these fake accounts had deceived people into thinking they were in a relationship with Sandra Bullock.
Bullock-Prado further added that these accounts were “run by crime rings” and that she’d brought the issue to the attention of Meta and Mark Zuckerberg but to no avail. She also referenced a recent incident involving a scammer pretending to be Brad Pitt and swindling a woman out of $850K.
