Chappell Roan Calls Out Record Labels During 2025 Grammys Acceptance Speech

Chappell Roan, who won the Award for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, addressed some big issues she had with the music industry and record labels while delivering her acceptance speech. This has sparked considerable intrigue and curiosity amongst fans, who are eager to learn what she said. Besides Best New Artist, the 26-year-old was also nominated for five other awards at the ceremony.

So, here are all the details fans need to know about Roan’s 2025 Grammys acceptance speech.

Chappell Roan’s Grammy acceptance speech explained

The “Pink Pony Club” singer, who had read her acceptance speech from a book, first thanked her fellow nominees’ music for helping her get through the year. She particularly pointed out how Brat was the “best night of [her] life this year.”

Moreover, Chappell Roan continued her speech as the big hat she wore fell off. She then thanked her songs’ listeners, Dan and Island Records, Amusement Records, and her loved ones, especially her late grandfather and namesake, Dennis K. Chappell.

“I told myself if I ever won a Grammy, and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and health care, especially to developing artists,” Roan added. This elicited a strong round of applause from the audience.

The singer also shared how a record label signed her up when she was a minor. She further added how they had dropped her during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to this, Roan had trouble finding a job, because she had “zero job experience under [her] belt.” Additionally, she expressed how she couldn’t afford health insurance at the time because of it, recalling her “devastating” feelings.

Chappell Roan stressed that if record labels had considered and prioritized the importance of artists’ health, she would have been getting the care she needed from the company she was fully dedicating herself to. Furthermore, she called for record labels to treat artists like herself as “valuable employees” and give them “livable wage” and “health insurance protection.”

To conclude her speech, the “Good Luck, Babe!” hitmaker pushed forward a question. “Labels we got you, but do you got us?,” she asked. This also evoked a huge round of applause from the audience.
