Princess Beatrice welcomes second baby
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi joyfully welcomed their second daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. The birth took place at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London at 12:57 p.m. Buckingham Palace officially announced the news on January 29, a week after the delivery.
Athena weighed 4 pounds and 5 ounces (approximately 1.9 kg) at birth. Both Beatrice and the newborn are reported to be in good health.
The newborn’s name, Athena, is inspired by the Greek goddess of wisdom and war. Her middle name, Elizabeth, mirrors that of her older sister, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi. Both of their middle names pay tribute to their late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. Following her birth, Athena becomes 11th in the line of succession to the British throne.
King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family were informed of the baby’s arrival and shared their joy over the news. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi also took to his social media to confirm the birth. He shared her face-covered photo on Instagram.
Sarah, Duchess of York, also took to her social media to celebrate Athena’s arrival. “Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world,” she wrote on Instagram. “She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team!”
Princess Beatrice was reportedly due to give birth in early spring. However, she was advised by her doctors not to travel long distances. Thus, she, Mozzi, and their children canceled their plans to spend Christmas overseas with Mozzi’s family. Instead, they celebrated Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham. (via BBC)
