Grammy-nominated Gracie Abrams recently called out a fan petition that intended to replace the opening artist in her upcoming concerts. Abrams is currently on tour and will be indulging in the European and U.K. legs in the next two months, February and March. For these events, Dora Jar will share the stage with the 25-year-old singer as her tour opener. However, this decision ended up inciting backlash from a group of fans who took to Change.org to voice their opinion.
Here’s everything you need to know regarding Gracie Abrams’ strongly worded reply to the fan petition about Dora Jar.
Gracie Abrams calls fan petition ‘bizarre’
Under an Instagram post, Gracie Abrams labeled the fan appeal to replace Dora Jar “uncool and bizarre” before reinforcing her support for the rookie artist.
“Just hearing about this absolute ridiculousness… so wildly uncool and bizarre and also just does not remotely add up,” she noted. Gracie Abrams then urged fans to support Dora Jar regardless of the petition, stating, “I’ve only seen everyone’s total excitement and I couldn’t be luckier or prouder to share a stage with this talented wonder. Stream everything she’s ever made whether or not you’re coming to the show. Dora forever and ever.”
The “Mess It Up” singer’s response comes after an account named Dexter Morgan filed an appeal on Change.org, asking for an alternative to Dora Jar as the opener for Abrams’ forthcoming concerts due to the duo’s seemingly contrasting styles and Jar’s limited popularity.
“We are perplexed as we do not recognize her,” Morgan’s petition read. “And with less than two weeks till the tour, it’s virtually impossible to familiarize ourselves with her slow-paced songs,” it further read. The appeal also raised concerns regarding Jar’s “slow tempo songs” that may not be able to “set the mood and get the crowd excited.” The fan petition has since been deleted amid intense backlash and Gracie Abrams’ replies.
The singer reaffirmed her decision to continue with Dora Jar by reposting her comments on her Instagram story. Meanwhile, the petition does not seem to concern Jar herself, as evidenced by her unmoved response on X (formerly Twitter).
