What Happened to DJ Unk? ‘Walk It Out’ Rapper Passes Away

Reports are circulating about the death of rapper and disk jockey Unk, also known by the moniker DJ Unk. Now, people want to know whether this is true. The musical artist, whose legal name is Anthony Leonard Platt, gained widespread recognition for his debut single, “Walk It Out,” which was released in 2006 and received a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

DJ Unk passes away at 43

DJ Unk’s wife, Sherkita Long-Plat, took to Facebook on January 24, 2025, to confirm the rapper’s death. He was reportedly 43 years old.

“Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER,” Long-Plat posted on Facebook.

TMZ cited Long-Plat to report that Unk passed away on January 24 in his sleep after he had a heart attack. She reportedly told the outlet that she was aware of the rumors circulating about the circumstances of Unk’s death and wanted to tell the truth. Long-Plat also dismissed the speculations that Unk died due to drug-related complications by stating that her late husband didn’t use such things.

Big Oomp Records, which released Unk’s music at one point, expressed their condolences in a statement on Instagram. “It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a true ATL legend, Anthony Platt better known as “DJ Unk”, ” the post reads. “On behalf of Big Oomp Records and the BOR Family, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the countless fans who were touched by his artistry and spirit.”

“Walk It Out” was part of Unk’s debut album, Beat’n Down Yo Block!. Its success allowed Unk to gain a solid footing in the music industry. He followed it with a second Season in 2008, which was modestly successful. However, Unk dealt with health issues over the years, and it reportedly impacted his professional life. In 2016, he suffered a mild heart attack and reportedly gave up marijuana and alcohol afterward.
