Professional baseball player Anthony Rizzo announced on Instagram that he and his wife Emily Vakos are expecting their first child together. Rizzo is a first baseman who is currently a free agent. Throughout his career, he has played for the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees of Major League Baseball.

Rizzo took to Instagram on Thursday and disclosed that he and Emily Vakos are going to be parents. The Chicago Cubs legend used the couple’s dog, Kevin, to make the announcement. In the photo Rizzo shared, the adorable dachshund is sitting on a sofa and has a scarf around his neck with the words “big brother” imprinted on it. Rizzo wrote in the caption, “Kev dog is gonna be a big brother!!!!” He tagged his wife and added several blue heart emojis.
Further, multiple ultrasound photos, a pair of baby’s shoes, and a onesie with “baby Rizzo” imprinted on it can also be seen in the photo.
The onesie also indicates that the due date is June 2025.
Since Rizzo shared the post, it has garnered over 80,000 likes. Messages congratulating the couple have filled the comment section. Aaron Judge, Rizzo’s former teammate the New York Yankees, is one of the well-wishers. Judge posted, “Let’s goo.” Alex Verdugo, another former Yankees player and currently a free agent, wrote, “Dad Gang!!!” and added two fire emojis at the end.
Rizzo won the 2016 World Series with the Cubs and received the Gold Glove Award four times, the Silver Slugger Award once, and the Roberto Clemente Award once. He and Emily Vakos met in 2016 while he was still affiliated with the Cubs. The couple got engaged in 2017 and exchanged wedding vows on December 29, 2018, in South Florida. Their dog, Kevin, has been with them since 2020. They currently live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
