Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag sue city of Los Angeles after losing home

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag sued the city of Los Angeles and LADWP on January 21, 2025, blaming them for the rampaging fires that led to the destruction of their home.

The couple were two of the plaintiffs of the lawsuit. The other plaintiffs included Pratt’s mother Janet, William Pratt, Zach Quittman, and Joanne Grey, to name a few. Meanwhile, the defendants listed were the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and the City of Los Angeles.

In the said lawsuit, Pratt and Montag blamed the LADWP and the City of Los Angeles for mismanagement of the water supply system and poor infrastructure. It further alleged that the LADWP deliberately used the water system with the drained and unusable reservoir, as part of a “cost-saving measure.”

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Fire Department captain Erik Scott acknowledged that the drained reservoir negatively impacted their ability to fight the fires, noting the inadequacy of the water pressure and its impact on some fire hydrants. Moreover, Pratt and Montag’s lawsuit mentioned that the Santa Ynez Reservoir, inactive since February on account of repairs, resulted in a 117 million-gallon water storage complex becoming empty.

The court documents also claim that the defendants had taken a “known” and “calculated risk” that would lead to the damage of private property in the event of fires. Furthermore, Arizona State University’s Water Institute’s director Professor Upmanu Lall noted that the lack of water from the reservoir caused firefighters to rely on water tanks, which weren’t strong enough to fight the fires.

Meanwhile, the LADWP and the city of Los Angeles have yet to officially comment on Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag’s lawsuit.
