Who Will Replace Norah O’Donnell After She Leaves CBS Evening News?

Norah O’Donnell has bid farewell to CBS Evening News, making viewers wonder about the anchor who will replace her. She is a noted journalist, well-known for CBS programs, such as 60 Minutes and Person to Person. Back in July 2024, she’d announced that she’d be leaving CBS News after the 2024 presidential election.

With the elections now having ended, she has now officially left the program and revealed her future plans. Viewers have been curious to find out who would take over as the anchor now. So, here are the details.

Who replaces Norah O’Donnell on CBS Evening News?

The revamped version of CBS Evening News will primarily focus on a group of anchors. It will be led by John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois. Joining them will be Lonnie Quinn for weather updates and Margaret Brennan as moderator of “Face The Nation.”

CBS Evening News primarily featured a prominent anchor who used to provide a weeknight survey of major events along with human-interest stories. With O’Donnell leaving the position and joining the network as senior correspondent, CBS has decided to air the revised Evening News to viewers.

On January 23, O’Donnell officially departed the news program and her big day was marked by Oprah Winfrey’s pre-taped message. In it, Winfrey said, “You have so much to be proud of. Your work as the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News has not only won awards but more importantly, has made such a difference and informed our nation.”

The newly launched Evening News will feature a team of anchors, aiming to reflect the style of local news programs watched by CBS station viewers across the US. This recent change from CBS is an indication that local broadcasts are still popular even though more viewers are getting their news from digital sources.

The current shift comes in light of Paramount+ being under pressure to cut a good amount of dollars from its operating cost, per Variety. Bringing together the teams of CBS News and local stations can help the network deal with the current economic and TRP problems at hand.
