No, Norah O’Donnell Did Not Get Fired From CBS Evening News

Norah O’Donnell‘s departure from CBS Evening News has left viewers wondering whether the network has fired her. She is a prominent journalist and anchor, widely known for several CBS programs like 60 Minutes and Person to Person. However, O’Donnell recently announced that she’s bidding adieu to CBS Evening News and revealed her future plans.

So, why did Norah O’Donnell leave CBS Evening News? Here are all the details.

Was Norah O’Donnell fired from CBS Evening News?

No, O’Donnell wasn’t fired from CBS Evening News; she left on her own accord.

On January 23, O’Donnell officially departed CBS Evening News after having worked as an anchor and managing editor for over 5 years. Her final day at the news program was graced by Oprah Winfrey, who shared a few kind words about her in a pre-taped message.

“You have so much to be proud of. Your work as the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News has not only won awards but more importantly, has made such a difference and informed our nation,” Oprah said.

O’Donnell’s exit from the news program was announced back in July 2024. The network had confirmed that she will be stepping down from her anchor desk position at CBS Evening News after the 2024 presidential election.

The TV host announced her exit in a heartfelt message, writing, “I have spent 12 years in the anchor chair here at CBS News, connected to a daily broadcast and the rigors of a relentless news cycle.” She further added that it was time for her to “do something different.” O’Donnell continued, “This presidential election will be my seventh as a journalist, and for many of us in this business, we tend to look at our careers in terms of these milestone events” (via CBS News).

Although she has moved on from her anchor role, O’Donnell will be taking on a new position at CBS as a senior correspondent.
