Why Has Netflix Raised Its Prices Again in 2025?

Subscribers are curious to know why Netflix has increased its prices again for Standard, ad-supported, and Premium plans in the US and other markets in 2025. The subscription cost adjustment was potentially seen in October 2023, since then the streaming giant hasn’t changed subscription pricing. However, the latest move comes in light of it earning record-breaking revenue, investing more into a stronger customer base, and further improving services.

Here are details on Netflix’s hiked prices.

How much does Netflix cost in 2025?

According to Variety, Netflix’s new pricing is as follows: ad-supported tier $7.99/month, premium tier $24.99/month, and standard plan without ads $17.99/month.

Netflix’s pricing before the changes were as follows: ad-supported tier $6.99/month, premium tier $22.99/month, and standard plan without ads $15.49/month. The prices have gone up by $1- $2.50.

The increase in price announcement comes after Netflix recorded its largest quarterly subscriber gain to date, with an addition of 18.9 million subscribers in Q4 2024. In addition, Netflix has addressed its increase in subscription plans to its investors in its quarterly letters, citing its continued determination to “invest in programming” and providing value to users.

The company confirmed that it might ask its members to pay a bit more “occasionally” to improve their services. “To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the U.S., Canada, Portugal, and Argentina (which was already factored into the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024),” the letter further read.

Why is Netflix increasing its prices again in 2025?

Netflix generally follows the pattern of increasing its prices at intervals of 5 to 7 quarters. For instance, if the plans’ pricing was changed in January, the price hike would occur after seven quarters and after five quarters if it were changed in October.

The below list showcases the price hikes history of the streaming giant in recent years (2019-2023):

  • October 2023 – $6.99 (Standard with ads), $11.99 (Basic), $15.49 (Standard), $22.99 (Premium)
  • January 2022 – $9.99 (Basic), $15.49 (Standard), $19.99 (Premium)
