Do the Traitors sleep in the castle in the US version?
The Traitors do not sleep in the castle in the US version of the series.
Alan Cumming, the host of the series, confirmed this in an interview with The Daily Beast. Here, he mentioned that the contestants, including Traitors, actually reside at the airport hotel in Inverness when not filming. “And I stayed in a little house in Inverness,” Cumming added. “But I had a room in the castle where I would get made up and dressed.”
Cumming further mentioned that his room in the castle had a “big bed,” which he would sleep in frequently but not on an overnight basis.
However, editing and blocking techniques are used to make audiences believe that the contestants reside in the castle.
The Traitors UK host Claudia Winkleman revealed to contestants that they would be driven to their own lodgings at the end of the day.
Moreover, The Traitors UK Season 1 traitor Wilfred Webster revealed in an interview with Heat Magazine that contestants were blindfolded till they reached their sleeping quarters. “And you don’t have your phone,” he added. “We weren’t even allowed the TV remote, so that we couldn’t access the internet or Google each other.” (via The Sun)
Executive producer Mike Cotton has not elaborated on where the Traitors slept when not filming. However, he has previously mentioned that the crew had to follow a meticulous procedure. This procedure involved preventing ‘faithfuls’ from discerning the identities of the ‘traitors’ and letting the latter scheme comfortably. He called this procedure a “massive military operation.”
