TikTok has thanked Donald Trump for saving its operations in the US after a federal law mandated the app’s shutdown due to national security concerns (via Reuters). The platform began restoring services on Sunday after Trump announced a plan to secure TikTok’s presence by requiring at least 50% ownership by U.S. investors.
In a message to its users, TikTok stated, “As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the US.” The platform also expressed gratitude to its service providers, acknowledging their role in the restoration process and affirming the app’s commitment to working with Trump on a long-term solution.
In a statement, TikTok noted, “In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
The announcement comes after the app was briefly removed from US app stores and became inaccessible to many users. Trump addressed the issue during a rally on Sunday, emphasizing the app’s importance to millions of Americans and small businesses.
Trump outlined plans to extend the ban deadline and negotiate a joint venture that safeguards U.S. national security. “I would like the United States to have a 50 per cent ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say (sic) up,” he reportedly said on Truth Social.
The platform’s return has been met with mixed reactions. Supporters praise Trump’s intervention as a step toward securing jobs and safeguarding a popular digital platform. However, critics have raised questions about its impact.
