Maple Leafs’ John Tavares Suffers Lower Body Injury During Practice

Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares has been sidelined with a lower-body injury following an incident during Wednesday’s practice. The injury occurred during a power-play drill, forcing Tavares to leave the ice early. The team has since placed him on injured reserve, with the forward player now considered week-to-week. Now, many are concerned about how Tavares got injured and when he will return to play with the team.

In this article, we will delve into the details of John Tavares’ injury.

How did John Tavares get injured?

Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares is facing a significant setback after suffering a lower-body injury during a power-play drill at practice on Wednesday. The 34-year-old forward, who has been a crucial player for the Leafs this season, was involved in a mishap with teammate Chris Tanev, causing him to leave the ice immediately. Tavares was able to skate off under his own power. However, the injury has placed him on injured reserve, with the team listing him as week-to-week.

Head Coach Craig Berube said, “Week-to-week right now. It’s unfortunate [it happened] in practice. Bad luck, but it is what it is, and we have to move on from it right now. You see his production and what he’s done, his leadership, he’s been an all-situational guy for us pretty much and he’s done a great job for us.” (via ESPN)

Tavares has been in excellent form this season, recording 42 points in 44 games, including 20 goals, making him a top contributor behind William Nylander. His leadership and experience have been invaluable to the Leafs.

With Tavares sidelined, the Leafs will rely on other players, including Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, to carry the load. Fraser Minten was recalled from the AHL to provide depth to the roster. The team remains focused on maintaining its strong performance as they battle for playoff positioning in the competitive Eastern Conference. Tavares’s absence will certainly be felt as fans hope for his quick recovery.
