Joined by her niece, Alex Fannie, the former talk show host vehemently denied claims that she is cognitively impaired despite her diagnoses of progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. She denied being “cognitively impaired,” describing her current situation as deeply frustrating.
Williams revealed she is living in a New York City care facility, which she described as isolating and restrictive. She said, “I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s. There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor.” Fannie echoed these concerns, calling the accommodations sparse and the environment stifling. Williams added that she has no access to a laptop or iPad and only a limited ability to contact her loved ones.
The conservatorship, overseen by guardian Sabrina E. Morrisey, has drawn criticism from Williams’ family and fans. Morrisey, who is currently suing A&E and Lifetime over the docuseries Where Is Wendy Williams? has been accused by the networks of guardianship abuse. Williams shared her frustrations with the system. She said she feels trapped and cannot celebrate important moments, such as her father’s upcoming 94th birthday.
Fighting back tears, Williams expressed her longing to leave the facility and reunite with her family in Miami. Her supporters have launched a #FreeWendy campaign, calling for a review of her legal arrangement.
