Houston Texans rookie tight end Cade Stover‘s season has come to an unfortunate end following a collarbone injury sustained in Saturday’s victory over the Chargers. The injury will require surgery, and Stover has been placed on injured reserve. With Stover sidelined, the Texans are left to adjust their tight end lineup as they prepare for the upcoming NFL playoff games.
Here’s more about Cade Stover’s injury.
What happened to Cade Stover?
Houston Texans rookie tight end Cade Stover is facing a challenging setback after suffering a fractured collarbone in the team’s 32-12 victory over the Chargers on Saturday. The injury will require surgery. This has ruled him out for the remainder of the season, as head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed. The Texans placed Stover on injured reserve on Tuesday. They did not make any immediate moves to add another player to the active roster. However, Teagan Quitoriano, who has been dealing with a calf injury, could potentially return from IR later this week at the tight end position for the upcoming divisional-round matchup against the Chiefs.
Stover, who was drafted in the fourth round from Ohio State, had been performing admirably during his rookie year. Against the Chargers, he recorded four catches for 28 yards. He had been a key player in Houston’s offense, especially as a reliable blocker and pass-catcher. Over the course of the regular season, Stover accumulated 15 receptions for 133 yards and one touchdown.
This injury comes after a series of setbacks for Cade Stover. He had previously missed two games due to an emergency appendectomy. With Stover now sidelined, the Texans are left with just Dalton Schultz and Irv Smith as the only healthy tight ends for the rest of the postseason. The team remains hopeful that Quitoriano’s return will provide much-needed support at the position as they prepare for their game against the Chiefs.
