Nintendo Switch 2 and the timing of its official announcement has been on fans’ minds for a long while now, emboldened by the gaming company’s immense secrecy surrounding the highly-anticipated gaming console. Now, a new scoop from a leaker has been making the rounds on the internet. This scoop claimed to know exactly when the Nintendo Switch 2 would be announced. As such, fans have been eager to know all the details surrounding this scoop.
Here is what we have learned from the Nintendo Switch 2’s announcement.
Nintendo expected to announce the Switch 2 on January 16
Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly expected to be officially announced on January 16, 2025.
This information comes from scooper and podcaster Nate the Hate. He confirmed this in the latest episode of his podcast. This scoop was later corroborated by The Verge’s Tom Warren. He mentioned via X that the Nintendo Switch 2 would be announced this week.
In his video, Nate the Hate mentioned hearing that the Switch 2 reveal would completely focus on the console and its capabilities. He added that fans should not expect any games for the console to be revealed.
However, since this information does not come from Nintendo directly, fans must take it with a grain of salt. However, fans may not need to wait for long. This is because Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed via X on May 2024 that the Switch successor would be announced by the end of the fiscal year, which is March 2025.
The hype around Nintendo Switch 2 has only been growing ever since what seemed to be a replica of the gaming console was showcased at CES 2025. It was showcased by accessory maker Genki, and images began leaking online shortly after. This eventually grabbed Nintendo’s attention. Nintendo later told CNET that it was not an official design and that they had not provided it to the company.
Nintendo’s lawyers later visited Genki. However, there were reportedly no legal ramifications for the latter. This is because they did not sign any NDA agreement with the gaming company.
