Jod’s Jedi Training Backstory in Skeleton Crew Explained

Wondering if Jod Na Nawood truly has Jedi roots in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew? The season finale dives deep into his mysterious past, revealing shocking connections to the Jedi Order and the traumatic event that changed his fate forever.

Here’s everything you need to know about Jod’s backstory and his true connection to the Force.

Was Jod Na Nawood really a Jedi in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?

In Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Jod Na Nawood, portrayed by Jude Law, is not a Jedi.

While he wields a lightsaber and uses the Force to a limited extent, the season finale confirms that Jod never completed formal Jedi training. His connection to the Jedi Order stems from his brief tutelage under a Jedi Master during his childhood, prior to the events of Order 66.

The series finale, titled “The Real Good Guys,” reveals Jod’s backstory. He was a street urchin, living in a hole in the ground when a wandering Jedi Master found him. Recognizing his Force sensitivity, she began training him. However, this training was cut short when Imperial forces hunted her down during Order 66.

Jod witnessed her execution, a traumatic event that profoundly shaped his life. This experience explains his mastery of some basic Force abilities and his possession of a lightsaber, though he lacks the full discipline and moral code of a Jedi.

Jod exploits his Force sensitivity for personal gain throughout the series. In the finale, he claims to be both a Jedi and an emissary. The planet’s Supervisor, voiced by Stephen Fry, uncovers his deception and labels the Jedi as traitors after Order 66.

Jod reacts violently, destroying the droid and shutting down the planet’s security to take control of At Attin. However, Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel join forces to resist him and ultimately contribute to the planet’s liberation.

Jod’s arc in Skeleton Crew shows his complex link to the Jedi. He was briefly trained by a Jedi who died during Order 66. After her death, he turned to piracy, using Force skills and a lightsaber without Jedi principles. His fate remains unclear, leaving room for future Star Wars stories.
