Jermaine Burton accused of assault but no charges filed
In an incident that reportedly took place on December 30, Jermaine Burton allegedly tried to choke a 19-year-old woman and threatened to die by suicide while holding a knife to his neck. Burton and this young woman have reportedly been dating on and off for about a month after meeting each other in September. After the alleged assault, the woman called the emergency services around 8:45 a.m. Police reports state that she was sobbing during the call. (via The Cincinnati Enquirer)
Before the reported assault and the threats of self-harm, Burton purportedly argued with the woman, ran after her into her apartment in the Oakley neighborhood, and destroyed her phone.
During the 911 call, the woman reportedly referred to Burton as “pretty abusive” and claimed that he “does a lot of things that I don’t tolerate.” She also called him a “narcissist” and a “manipulator.” She claimed that they had gone out together before the incident. They apparently had a fight before the woman went to her home by herself. However, when she reached in front of her house, she discovered that Burton was there and wouldn’t let her get in. “I don’t f****** deserve this,” the woman, whose name the police redacted from the reports, told the 911 operator. “I’m only 19.”
The police eventually reached the woman’s residence and reportedly discovered that the woman had sustained minor injuries and Burton had left. Although the woman purportedly wanted to press charges against the football player at first, but later decided against it.
In the statement released to The Enquirer, the Bengals mentioned that the team was aware of the incident, adding, “We will continue to evaluate as we gather additional details and will have no further comment at this time.”
