In a shocking revelation, two dead bodies were recently found in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue plane in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The discovery has sent shockwaves throughout the country, with many raising concerns about the frequent nature of such incidents. But what actually happened with the JetBlue airplane in question?
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the deceased persons retrieved from the said flight.
2 bodies found in JetBlue landing gear
On Monday, January 6, two people were found dead in the JetBlue Flight 1801’s landing gear compartment. The incident came to light during a post-flight maintenance assessment. This was after the plane had completed its trip from the Kennedy Airport in New York to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.
While the identities of the deceased remain uncertain at the moment, a representative of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed both of them to be men. Paramedics were called as soon as the bodies were discovered in the JetBlue aircraft’s landing gear compartment. Nevertheless, the two men were pronounced dead on arrival.
An investigation is currently underway to unearth the identities of the said dead bodies, as per Fox5 New York. At the time of writing, it is unknown how the men got into JetBlue’s landing gear or for how long they were stationed there.
The airline has since released an official statement to show remorse for the unfortunate incident. “This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred,” a JetBlue spokesperson stated.
Notably, people have long used landing gears to travel from place to place without being discovered. The compartments usually open and close to retract or deploy wheels during lift-off and landing. As such, placing oneself in such a compromised place gives way to fatal accidents, more often than not. Most recently, a person was discovered dead in a wheel well of a United Airlines flight on December 25, 2024. (via CNN)
