Corbet, who won the award for Best Director for his film The Brutalist, expressed his support for Plaza, saying, “Finally, tonight, my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family.” His gesture added a poignant note to an otherwise celebratory evening.

Plaza, 40, had been scheduled to present at the ceremony but withdrew following Baena’s sudden death on January 3. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reportedly ruled Baena’s passing as a suicide.

The tragic news shocked Hollywood, with many stars and collaborators sending their condolences. Plaza and Baena had been together since 2011 and tied the knot in 2021. The couple frequently collaborated on films, including Life After Beth and The Little Hours, cementing their professional and personal partnership.

Corbet’s acknowledgment wasn’t the only show of support Plaza received. In the days following Baena’s death, several celebrities reached out publicly. Julia Fox commented on Plaza’s latest Instagram post, writing, “Sending you so much love.” Selma Blair wrote, “No words can touch this painful time. Only love and strength.” Alison Brie, one of Baena’s most frequent collaborators, shared a tribute on Instagram Stories.

Baena left a lasting mark on indie films with his mix of dark comedy and heartfelt stories. His notable works, such as I Heart Huckabees and Joshy, showcased his distinct style as a filmmaker. Despite his success, Baena maintained a low profile, often working with close collaborators, including Plaza.

While Plaza remains out of the public eye, her peers have made it clear that the entertainment industry stands with her during this difficult time. According to Daily Mail Adam Pally, another friend of the couple, shared his own tribute, stating, “My heart breaks for my friend Aubrey and the Baena family.”
