Here’s Why Chad Duell Left General Hospital

Viewers are curious to know why Michael Corinthos, portrayed by Chad Duell, left General Hospital. Since his debut in 2010, he’s played the son of the late A.J. Quartermaine and his ex-wife Carly Spencer. Later, Sonny Corinthos adopted him. However, in November of last year, Duell announced he was stepping away from the role. So, why did he depart from General Hospital?

Here are all the details.

Why did Chad Duell leave General Hospital as Michael Corinthos?

Chad Duell left General Hospital to focus on his family and also wants to take time out for himself. In late November 2024, Duell took to Instagram, sharing the GH cast image and a heartwarming note, announcing his official exit. In the caption, he mentioned that leaving the show “wasn’t an easy decision” for him but that it felt like “the right time” in his life. He also extended his gratitude to the show’s cast and crew as well as the fans.

Most recently, he appeared on the Daily Drama Podcast wherein he opened up on his exit. “A lot of stuff’s been going on in my life,” he shared. “There’s a few things behind it but one thing I did say is… my dad passed away and I’m still coming to terms with that.”

Therefore, the actor wanted to spend quality time with his family in Arizona.”But that’s becoming a little harder to do because [my partner] Luana has school and [our son] Dawson, he goes to this daycare out here,” he added.

Duell further opened up on his life after having a child. “It’s different because I have a kid now. But also for him and me as well, and everybody, doing what’s best for me, spiritually, mentally, everything, too, will only reflect my energy in a better way towards everybody around me.”

While Duell might have left the show, as of now, there are no plans to recast his character.
