Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Episode 6, “Zero Friends Again,” is now available on Disney+, and fans understandably have a lot of questions after watching it. As with any Star Wars material, Skeleton Crew expands on the lore. In the early episodes, Tak Rennod, a notorious pirate who was formerly the captain of the Onyx Cinder, was introduced. He has become an enigmatic and legendary figure by the time the show takes place, and it appears that almost every pirate in the galaxy knows him.
Here is what we have learned about Tak Rennod in Star Wars.
Captain Tak Rennod’s Star Wars history before Skeleton Crew explained
Captain Tak Rennod has not appeared in any other Star Wars material, be it canon or Legends, beyond Skeleton Crew. However, the show has already built new lore around him. Rennod was a fearsome pirate who garnered widespread notoriety for attacking starships. He desperately wanted to find the location of At Attin, the legendary planet from where the young heroes of Skeleton Crew are from. Known as one of the Jewels of the Old Republic, At Attin was hidden from the rest of the galaxy. While the other jewel planet faced doom in one way or another, At Attin remained populated, civilized, and seemingly peaceful. In time, it became known as the “lost planet of eternal treasure.” In the episode, it is revealed that the planet served as the Old Republic’s mint.
Rennod’s desire to find At Attin eventually led him to Fallen Sanctum on the planet At Achrann, another jewel planet. After finding the coordinates to At Attin, Rennod killed the crew members who accompanied him there and instructed his droid SM-33 to destroy the inscriptions. He seemingly met his end after his crew and his mistress turned on him. However, as a last act, he ensured the deaths of those who betrayed him by crashing the Onyx Cinder on At Attin.
Did Jod Na Nawood find Tak Rennod’s lightsaber in Skeleton Crew Episode 5?
No, Jod didn’t find Tak Rennod’s lightsaber in Skeleton Crew Episode 5, Wim did. But, Jod picked it up later.
The group was in Rennod’s lair underneath Skull Ridge Mountain on planet Lanupa when Wim chanced upon it. After Jod challenged Fern for the position of captain of the Onyx Cinder, Wim tried to use the Jedi weapon to threaten the pirate. However, he didn’t realize that he was holding it upside down. He got scared after turning it on and involuntarily threw it away. In the closing moments of the episode, Jod picks the lightsaber up using the Force.
