The story follows Romy (Nicole Kidman), the CEO of a tech company who enters a complex web of sexual fantasy after initiating an affair with Samuel (Harris Dickinson), a young intern at her company. In the film, Romy has a stable married life with Jacob. However, she is dissatisfied with their sexual relationship and often goes to her office following their encounters to masturbate to dominate pornography, which is something she truly desires and fantasizes about.

Things change when she meets Samuel, who shows a keen understanding of what she wants in sex. As such, when the opportunity presents itself, Romy who shows initial reluctance, throws herself into the relationship. Here, Romy would often take on the submissive role, while Samuel would portray the dominant one.

Their affair becomes increasingly risky as Samuel frequently shows up at Romy’s house, which often frustrates her. Despite this, they successfully manage to keep their relationship a secret from others, including Jacob. At first, Samuel is only casually interested in Romy, but over time, he finds himself genuinely happy and falls in love with her.

Ultimately, Esme, Romy’s assistant, learns about the affair and confronts her. This forces Romy to come clean to Jacob about both her sexual dissatisfaction with him and the affair, prompting him to boot her out of the house.

Eventually, Jacob catches Romy and Samuel at the former two’s country house. This results in a scuffle, that ends when Jacob suffers a panic attack and Samuel helps him. Romy and Jacob then reconcile and decide to work on their marriage. Samuel also lets go of his love for Romy, apologizing for getting between her and Jacob.

Romy stays resolute in working on her and Jacob’s marriage, coldly rebuffing the advances of her subordinate.
