Is There a Nosferatu Post-Credits Scene at the End?

Robert Eggers’ latest feature Nosferatu is a gothic horror movie based on the namesake 1922 silent film of the same name. The plot revolves around estate agent Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) and his wife Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp), whose lives become plagued with nightmares and horror because of Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), a vampiric Bohemian nobleman. It debuted in US theaters on December 25, 2024, and people are wondering whether Nosferatu has a mid-, post-, or end-credits scene.

Here are the details.

Does Nosferatu have an end, mid, or post-credits scene?

No, Nosferatu doesn’t have a mid-, end-, or post-credits scene.

Generally, these scenes serve one of three purposes and are prevalent in franchise filmmaking. They either tie up any loose threads of the overall narrative of a movie or tease the potential continuation of the story. Alternatively, they can be a piece of fan service, a tribute to the viewers who have followed the franchise for a while. In the horror genre, these scenes can often depict the survival of the primary antagonist despite their apparent demise in the movie’s climax.

Although Nosferatu is ultimately a horror movie, it doesn’t end by showing the survival of the titular character. Instead, his death, which happens in the climax of the movie, remains definitive and final. Ellen sacrifices herself by giving consent to Orlok to drink her blood. He becomes so preoccupied with quenching his thirst that he doesn’t notice the sunrise. Soon, blood starts to come out of his eyes, and he dies. However, Ellen dies as well due to blood loss.

Afterward, Prof. Albin Eberhart Von Franz (Willem Dafoe) underscores what Ellen has done and announces that the plague and the curse are finally over.

Notably, the original 1922 movie was an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula, the classic Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. Like in Eggers’ adaptation, Orlok in the 1922 movie and Count Dracula in Stoker’s book are killed at the end of the respective stories.
