The trailer for James Gunn’s highly-anticipated Superman has finally arrived, leading to a surge of questions regarding the film among fans. One of these questions is whether the upcoming summer DCU superhero flick is connected to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman franchise.
So, is the new Superman movie connected to Pattinson’s The Batman franchise? Here is the answer.
Is the new Superman movie connected to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman?
No, the new Superman movie, featuring David Corenswet, is not connected to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman franchise.
When James Gunn first announced his slate for the DC Universe in 2023, he clarified that the Matt Reeves-helmed franchise existed in its own separate continuity, as part of the DC Elseworlds umbrella.
However, Gunn revealed in a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had “contemplated” bringing Pattinson’s Caped Crusader over to his DC Universe. “I contemplate everything. I talk about everything,” he added. (via Collider)
Gunn is instead overseeing the development of a different Batman film set in his DC Universe. Titled The Brave and the Bold, this upcoming film will be directed by Andrew Muschietti, who previously helmed the DCEU’s The Flash. This film will follow a more established version of the Dark Knight and his relationship with the Bat family, particularly his son, Damian Wayne’s Robin.
However, it will be a pretty long time before fans can meet the DCU’s Batman as its script is far from being finalized and its production is yet to begin. Recently, Gunn mentioned that its script “isn’t quite there” yet.
Reeves’ The Batman Part II is currently scheduled for an October 2026 release. Meanwhile, Gunn’s Superman soars into the sky on July 11, 2025.
Besides Corenswet, Superman will star Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Sara Sampaio, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Wendell Pierce, and Edi Gathegi.
