Do Shadow and Robotnik die in Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s ending?
Dr. Ivo Robotnik apparently dies in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Shadow the Hedgehog also appears to die at the end of the main film but is revealed to have survived in the post-credits scene.
Ivo seemingly dies after he sacrifices himself to protect Earth from the Eclipse Cannon’s destructive powers, by moving the dangerous creation away from Earth’s range before it explodes.
He’d originally joined his grandfather Gerald Robotnik in the latter’s revenge campaign against earth for his granddaughter Maria’s death, contributing to the Eclipse Cannon’s creation. However, he ended up turning against his grandfather when their goals clashed, as Ivo decided to conquer earth while Gerald wished to destroy it. Before his sacrifice, Ivo streams a message to his assistant Agent Stone, whom he addresses as his friend.
Meanwhile, Shadow, who also seemingly sacrificed himself by helping Ivo move the Eclipse Cannon away from Earth before it exploded, somehow survived, as shown in the after-credits scene. Shadow is then shown picking up his inhibitor ring.
What happened to Maria in Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
Maria was killed in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when she was caught in an explosion set off by a Chaos Energy container, after it was triggered by a stray shot from a GUN soldier.
She died while she attempted to help Shadow escape from GUN’s headquarters and they were halted in their tracks by the soldiers. This was after the pair learned from Gerald that GUN wanted to take Shadow, whom they had been experimenting on, away.
Her death served as the catalyst for much of the film’s events, particularly Shadow and Gerald Robotnik’s vengeance against the world.
