Yellowstone viewers have often gotten a great look at the Dutton Ranch as the series primarily revolved around that family. However, they have long been curious about the size of the area that the ranch encompasses.
So, exactly how many acres is the Dutton ranch in Yellowstone? Here are all the details.
How many acres is the Dutton Ranch on Yellowstone?
It is currently unknown exactly how many acres the Dutton Ranch on Yellowstone is. This is because the series never clearly states it. It is only stated that it is one of the biggest ranches in the United States. It is also said to be the size of Rhode Island.
However, according to various online reports, the Chief Joseph Ranch, a real-life ranch in Darby, Montana, on which the fictional Yellowstone Ranch is based and where many parts of the series were filmed, covers about 2500 acres.
Despite this, the 2500 acres is only a small portion and not the entirety. The entire Yellowstone Ranch is said to span between 776,900 acres of Rhode Island and about 825,000 acres of Kings Ranch, the biggest ranch in the U.S. This, in turn, would make the Dutton Ranch fall somewhere between 775,000 and 825,000 acres.
The ranch is supposedly worth $8 billion. This is because, at one point in the series, Willa Hayes offers a deal to the Dutton family to purchase a portion of their ranch for $10,000 per acre.
The Chief Joseph Ranch, which the Yellowstone Ranch was based on, was originally called the Ford-Hollister Ranch and was founded in the 1880s by glass tycoon William S. Ford and judge Howard Clark Hollister. They had overseen the ranch and its success till the 1950s, when they sold it, after which it was renamed Chief Joseph.
Melvin Pervais then purchased the ranch in 1987. At the time of purchase, it was in poor condition. However, Pervais made improvements and renovations over a 10-year period. He then sold this ranch in 2004.
