Soon, there is another trouble for Claire when she is arrested by the authorities who accuse him of spying in the country. However, hope comes in the form of Lord John Grey, who decides to marry the young lady to save her life. Thus, Claire ends up marrying John Grey against her will to prove her loyalty to the British Army. She feels trapped in a loveless marriage as her heart still belongs to Jamie. On the other hand, John Grey has developed feelings for her despite being gay. However, he tries his best to hide his feelings from his wife.
In a recent interview with Variety, actress Caitríona Balfe opened up on the current situation of her character. She stated, ”I think Claire appeared equally as miserable for her Jamie wedding, although secretly happy inside. Outwardly very miserable then, and certainly miserable now. I think she is just numb now. She is in the process of shock. It is purely functional — this is to save her.”
While Claire finds it difficult to move on with a new man, Jamie is about to return to her life. He was shown alive at the end of episode 11, suggesting a reunion with his lady love. It will be interesting to see whether Claire reunites with Jamie or whether John confesses his feelings.
