Patrick Mahomes’ recent injury has raised concerns about his availability for the Kansas City Chiefs’ upcoming match against the Houston Texans. The star quarterback’s status remains uncertain, leaving NFL fans concerned.
Here is what happened to Patrick Mahomes.
What happened to Patrick Mahomes?
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury during the fourth quarter of their game against the Cleveland Browns. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed the injury was not a fracture, describing Mahomes’ ankle as “sore.” He also stated Mahomes has already started the rehabilitation process. Reid said, “It’s sore, and he’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go. And then we’ll just have to see how he does down the road here.” (via ESPN)
The injury occurred when Mahomes was brought down from behind by Dalvin Tomlinson while being hit high by Mike Hall during a fourth-down pass attempt, which fell incomplete. Despite wanting to stay in the game, Mahomes was sidelined as the Chiefs held a comfortable 21-7 lead. Reid noted that Mahomes was eager to return but deemed it unnecessary given the circumstances. Carson Wentz stepped in as backup.
Recounting the play, Mahomes said, “I was trying to run up in the pocket, obviously fourth down, trying to make a play happen. And as I threw the ball, I kind of got hit — and I haven’t seen it — but it felt like someone hit me from behind as well. And so I kind of just got rolled up on. It kind of happens in football. And so I tried to bounce back up, but obviously, it hurt a little bit.” While visibly limping, he remained on the sideline for the rest of the game before walking off to the locker room.
Will Patrick Mahomes play against Texans?
After leaving Sunday’s game with a right ankle injury, Patrick Mahomes’ status for the Kansas City Chiefs’ upcoming clash with the Houston Texans remains unclear. Speaking after the match, Mahomes said, “It’s hard to say right now. You still [have the] adrenaline rolling. And usually it’s kind of the day after when you kind of get a good sense of it. I feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances. But I thought the smart decision was to put Carson Wentz in.” With only a few days to prepare, Mahomes is focused on recovery.
