Sources in the LAPD told TMZ that authorities reached the area where OG Maco’s home is located at 10 AM, responding to one of his neighbors making a 911 call about a gunshot. They discovered OG Maco in an unresponsive state and sent him to a hospital nearby. Per the aforementioned report, the rapper underwent surgery.

At the time of writing, it’s unknown what transpired before the gun went off.

As mentioned above, OG Maco is one of the pioneers of trap music. He is originally from College Park, Georgia, and later became active in the thriving hip-hop scene of Atlanta. He released his studio album The God Of Rage in 2021. Before that, he put out several extended plays, including Public Speaking (under the name Maco Mattox) in 2012, a self-titled release in 2014, Breathe in 2014, and many more.

In July 2016, OG Maco, whose legal name is Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was involved in a serious vehicular accident. He almost lost the use of one eye and sustained multiple fractures to his skull, cracked vertebrae, and an assortment of other injuries. In a 2016 interview with HipHopDX, OG Maco explained what happened:

“You know, it don’t happen like that. My face [points to right side of face] this whole part of my face is fake,” the rapper said. “This part just don’t exist no more. This is plastic surgery at its best. Even my eye; my eye will be back.”

On why he was wearing an eyepatch at the time, OG Maco elaborated, “I can see out this eye! But it just ain’t healthy for me to keep it out and s***. If I keep doing that, I won’t be able to see out this eye. It’ll get infected so I gotta take my time with it.”

In 2019, the rapper was treated for a condition called necrotizing fasciitis, caused by a flesh-eating bacteria. It led to significant facial scarring.
