Claressa Shields is a boxer and mixed martial artist.
Born on March 17, 1995, Shields hails from Flint, Michigan. She kickstarted her boxing career under her coach and trainer Jason Crutchfield at Bersten Field House and went on to win the Junior Olympic championships. This was followed by successes at the National Police Athletic League Championships, the Women’s Elite Continental Championship, and the 2012 Olympics.
Claressa Shields was unstoppable as she enjoyed a glorious run in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, she managed to reclaim her throne as the champion of the WBC and IBF female super middleweight. In the following year, she was declared the undisputed champion in women’s weight with consistent victories in WBC, WBA, WBO, and WBO. On July 27, 2024, the 29-year-old defeated Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse to win the WBC heavyweight championship.
In addition to a successful career in boxing, Shields is also known in the field of martial arts. She went on to sign a three-year contract with the Professional Fighters League and secured a victory in her MMA debut in 2021.
