Adrian Wojnarowski reveals he was diagnosed with prostate cancer
On September 18, 2024, Wojnarowski made a shocking announcement on his X. He shared his decision to retire from ESPN following a seven-year tenure. He decided to take on a new role as the general manager for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program. While his post hinted at prioritizing personal fulfillment, one line stood out: “Time isn’t in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are more personally meaningful.”
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the 55-year-old said that the line “was about the cancer”. Wojnarowski that he was diagnosed with the disease in early March with a medical examination revealing high levels of prostate-specific antigen in his blood. He further shared that the cancer is limited in scope and “typically slow growing”. He also mentioned that there is no need for surgery and he needs to focus on monitoring and a healthy lifestyle.
Wojnarowski also shared that aside from the cancer the reason behind his departure was to focus on his family. He stated, ”In the end it’s just going to be your family and close friends. And it’s also, like, nobody gives a (expletive). Nobody remembers (breaking stories) in the end. It’s just vapor.” He admitted that staying in his previous role only for financial reasons would not have been fulfilling.
