Sony’s Venom 3 not only served as the swan song for Tom Hardy’s take on the iconic anti-hero but also introduced fans to the villainous Knull. While the King in Black only made a brief appearance on the big screen, his majestic presence was enough to leave a mark on the audience. Famous for bringing CGI roles to life, Andy Serkis played a major part in establishing the character’s might by lending his voice to Knull. As such, there is much buzz that suggests the multi-faceted actor could come back as the symbiote god in future MCU projects. So, will Andy Serkis return as Knull?
Here’s everything we know regarding the Serkis’ future as the extraterrestrial supervillain in Marvel.
Will Andy Serkis return as Knull in the MCU?
At the time of writing, Andy Serkis’ return as Knull remains unconfirmed. However, there are multiple indications that point towards this development becoming a reality sooner rather than later.
In a conversation with Screen Rant at the FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024, The Batman star disclosed that he was recruited at the last minute to portray Knull in Venom 3. During this discussion, Andy Serkis also addressed the theories regarding his return as Knull. “There was talk of, ‘This could go on…He’s quite a big character,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I know that.’ Well, let’s see what happens, actually,” he remarked.
In a previous interview with ComicBookMovie.com‘s Josh Wilding, Venom 3 director Kelly Marcel also revealed that she and Tom Hardy always wanted Andy Serkis to play Knull. Lauding the English actor’s talent, Marcel noted, “We always knew it would be Andy. We love Andy, and it felt right. We’ve brought most of our team along with us for all three of these movies, so we really want to keep it as a family. Andy is a massive part of the Venom family.”
Considering Andy Serkis and Kelly Marcel’s comments, the rumors of the former’s return as Knull, particularly in the MCU, certainly do not feel far-fetched. However, there have been no official updates regarding the introduction of any character from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe in the MCU so far.
