What happened to Luke Shaw?
Luke Shaw is presently facing multiple weeks on the sideline after he suffered from a hamstring injury during training, as per Manchester Evening News.
The unfortunate incident comes after Shaw missed the first three months of the ongoing campaign due to an issue he picked up after the 2024 Euros. Following his much-awaited return, the former Southampton graduate was able to make three substitute appearances under Amorim, who only joined the club in November 2024. However, a new injury now seems to have heavily derailed Luke Shaw’s recovery.
The 2022-23 EFL Cup winner took to social media to share his despair on his current situation, labeling it his “toughest period” yet. “I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs, but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time,” the left-back noted. Luke Shaw also acknowledged fans’ exasperation regarding his consistent injury problems. He stated, “I understand there are going to be people frustrated, angry, disappointed, and I understand all of that.” (via ESPN)
Nevertheless, the Premier League veteran still assured the Manchester United fans of his commitment to the club. “I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season,” he remarked.
Luke Shaw has always struggled with injury problems ever since his transfer from Southampton to Manchester United materialized in 2014. In the 10 years since, Shaw has dealt with 27 different issues, including illnesses, while making 278 appearances for the club (via Transfermarkt). In a similar fashion, the player has only been able to start four games for the Red Devils in 2024.
Shaw currently has a contract with United that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027.
