San Francisco 49ers star Trent Williams and his wife, Sondra Williams, are mourning the tragic loss of their newborn son, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr., who was stillborn on November 24. Sondra shared the devastating news on Instagram, revealing that their baby boy passed away at 35 weeks due to complications related to Trisomy 13, a rare genetic condition. The loss comes after the couple had already endured the tragedy of losing his twin earlier in the pregnancy.
In her emotional post, Sondra expressed the heartbreak of leaving the hospital without her baby and facing Thanksgiving without him. She added, “My heart is heavy. Being home without you in my arms has been quite an adjustment. Knowing I will never be able to watch you grow older alongside your sisters has my eyes filled with tears.” She found solace in the brief time she carried Trenton and thanked God for the moments they had together.
Trent Williams, who has taken time away from football to be with his family, has not made a public statement. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan shared that Williams was by his wife’s side at the hospital and had the opportunity to meet and say goodbye to his son. Shanahan said, “He was there at the hospital with [his wife] and got to meet him and say bye. Then he had to cremate him on Friday. So he’s been dealing with that and he’s working through it. But we’re all just trying to be here for him through it all.” (via NFL)
The Williams family has received an outpouring of sympathy from fans and teammates as they navigate this painful chapter.
