Costco recalled over 10k cartons of eggs

According to a recent report by CNN, Handsome Brook Farms has recalled approximately 10,800 units of the Organic Pasture Raised eggs. A press release made by Handsome Brook Farms and shared on the website of the US Food and Drug Administration states that the eggs which are marketed under the brand Kirkland Signature “have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

In the press release, Handsome Brook Farms also mentioned the symptoms of Salmonella, stating, “Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.”

25 outlets of Costco in South and North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee came under the recall procedure. Additionally, Handsome Brook Farms mentioned that the eggs have plastic packaging and the units have the Julian code 327. The use-by date on these egg cartons is January 5, 2025.

Furthermore, the release stated, “To date, there are no illness complaints. This recall is being done in cooperation with the FDA. Impacted consumers should stop consuming the product and should return the identified units to their local Costco store for a full refund or should dispose of the products.”
