Miley Cyrus defends Chappell Roan in an interview

Speaking to Harper Bazaar, Miley Cyrus spoke out in support of Chappell Roan, who has opened up about fans invading her personal space. Cyrus hoped that fans wouldn’t give her a hard time, saying that she understands how hard it is getting into the music business and dealing with the newly-found fame.

Cyrus said,” It’s probably really hard coming into this business with phones and Instagram. That wasn’t always a part of my life, and I’m not a part of it now. I don’t even have my Instagram password.”

In August 2024, Roan took to her TikTok, sharing two videos criticizing fans for not respecting her privacy and bullying her online. She called some fans out for their behavior on the streets, which included stalking her and her family, yelling, and abusing her online for refusing to take photos.

Presenting a hypothetical about a “random woman” being asked by a stranger for a photograph, Roan asked, “Would you be offended if she says no to your time because she has her own time? Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a lady you don’t know and she doesn’t know you at all. Would you assume that she’s a good person, assume she’s a bad person? Would you assume everything you read online about her is true? I’m a random b—-, you’re a random b—-. Just think about that for a second, OK?”

Roan went on to say that she doesn’t consider such encounters “normal.” She mentioned that she is aware that she is in a fame-orientated business, however, she doesn’t believe saying no to selfies or hugs is selfish. (via Variety)
